History

Caroline LeBlanc has been providing psychological services to Islanders since 1991. Initially working for the Justice Department, she was offered, in 1998, the opportunity to be part of the Swiss Air Psychological Team that provided support to persons involved in dealing with the devastating air crash. The involvement in this international event changed her focus and Caroline decided to devote her career to working with first responders. For the following years, her private practice began to specialize in the assessment and treatment of trauma and PTSD. Approximately 5 years ago, realizing that psychotherapy alone did not support clients in the comprehensive approach that was required in order to help and heal trauma, she decided to expand her practice to include equine-assisted psychotherapy. Two facilities were initially chosen as confidential and appropriate settings for the equine work. One was located in Hunter River and the second in Nine Mile Creek. Caroline and equine specialist, Mary McNiven, then worked diligently with the EAGALA model of equine assisted psychotherapy , offering clients yet another effective way of working through very difficult traumatic memories and events.

The positive feedback received from clients and the profound changes observed inspired Caroline to expand on these services in order to provide equine assisted psychotherapy to a greater number of clients. The idea of having a facility that would include regular offices, group meeting area, equine therapy and a serene confidential country setting began to emerge.

In August, 2013, the perfect property was found in Alexandra, Prince Edward Island. Situated just 10 minutes from downtown Charlottetown, the property sits on 125 acres of pristine and quiet woods and fields and offers a panoramic view of the stunning Pownal Bay.

In May 2014, the road construction began and the building construction started on June 11. In October, 2014, doors opened and the facility is now in full operation.
